Happy Resurrection Day!

Today it struck me just how important and world-changing Easter truly is. It is easy to lose track of the true meaning of “Resurrection Day.” Even though we understand that it is the day when our Lord conquered the grave and proved His capability to bear our sins, we do not really understand. How astounding is Easter? How amazing? We cannot put it into words. The Reformers knew. Despite the bloodshed of the time, they were much closer to the Bible than many are now. They read and reread passages. They studied voraciously. And they knew in their hearts and souls what Easter truly meant.

Martin Luther was struck by the awe-inspiring knowledge of Easter and what it represented. One of his quotes spoke beautifully of the resurrection: “In the bonds of Death He lay Who for our offence was slain; But the Lord is risen to-day, Christ hath brought us life again; Wherefore let us all rejoice, Singing loud, with cheerful voice, Hallelujah!” Even in the midst of persecution, suffering, and heartache, the early Reformers and also the first people to proudly be called Protestants understood and honored the resurrection. Here and now, I endeavor to do the same.
